On Tuesday (Dec. 5) a couple of Comox Valley residents delivered popcorn to show appreciation for hospital staff and modern medicine.

Jim Small and Tim Davies are two locals who received organ transplants. Small lives in Comox, while Davies lives in Courtenay. They volunteer with BC Transplant to visit hospitals in December and deliver festive popcorn to staff.

“It’s just a small thing we can do to pay back nursing staff,” said Martin Davies, who tags along with his son Tim, and Small. “Just to prove (staff’s) work saves lives.”

Tim received a heart transplant in 1999 and in 2014, while Small received a single lung transplant 15 years ago.

The group of volunteers brought boxes of festive popcorn to workers in the emergency room, the intensive care unit, and the operating room wings at North Island Hospital Comox Valley. The goal is to show appreciation for the hard work of hospital staff.

The holiday gift-giving is an annual event every December. This marks the 32nd year.
