Consider geocaching, an outdoor 鈥渢reasure-hunting game鈥� played utilizing a GPS. Geocaching creates a great opportunity to combine learning and exploring.

Join Project Watershed鈥檚 geocache hunt, enjoy the outdoors, learn about Puntledge River fish habitat restoration and protection projects, and create an opportunity to win an 8.5x11-inch map of the Puntledge/Browns River watershed.

The basic idea of geocaching is to use co-ordinates, obtained from Project Watershed鈥檚 website, to locate the hidden containers (geocaches). Stashed in the containers are small items and in the case of Project Watershed鈥檚 geocaches, information on Project Watershed鈥檚 Puntledge River Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) funded restoration, assessment and protection projects.

Project Watershed鈥檚 eight geocaches are labelled with a letter.

Here's how to play:

鈥� Go to Project Watershed鈥檚 website (www.projectwatershed.ca) to access detailed information and co-ordinates.

鈥� Enter the co-ordinates of the geocache into your GPS device.

鈥� Use your GPS device to assist you in finding the hidden geocache.

鈥� Write down the letter from each geocache, read the geocache information and return the geocache to its original location.

鈥� Arrange the letters to spell a word. E-mail this word to Project Watershed.

鈥� Get the word correct and we will contact you with details on how to pick up your free map.

鈥� If you take something from the geocache, please leave something of equal or greater value.
