The Comox Valley Naturalists Society invites the public to join members at their general meeting on April 27 to learn about the Bird Friendly Cities initiative in the Town of Comox.

Bird Friendly Cities is a program run by Nature Canada, and many communities across Canada are participating. It recognizes communities that have programs and volunteer organizations creating a safe environment for birds to thrive within their community.

For a community to be designated as Bird Friendly, it must meet criteria in three categories: threat reduction, habitat protection, restoration and climate resilience and community outreach/education.

The guest speaker at this meeting is Robert McLennan, who brought the Bird Friendly program to the Comox Valley and is the Coordinator of the Bird Friendly Team of citizens in Comox. McLennan has long been active at MARS, holding many positions in that organization over the years.

The team is aiming to have Comox certified as Bird Friendly this year before expanding the program to other Comox Valley communities. This presentation will be in the main hall of Comox United Church at 250 Beach Drive in Comox, starting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday April 27. To learn more about Comox Valley Nature, visit .
