THE DRAGONBOAT SEASON is coming for the Comox Valley Dragonflies.

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a dragon boat paddler, you can try this international sport.

The Comox Valley Dragonflies team invites you to come out for a Saturday morning practice and paddle with them in the beautiful Comox harbour March 26, April 2 and April 9. The team welcomes men and women of all ages with any level of experience or even complete beginners to take up a seat and try team paddling.

Practices are on Saturday mornings throughout the winter months, then move to Monday and Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. in the spring and summer.

On April 16, the Dragonflies will host a paddling clinic that will enable new paddlers to learn the technique and experienced paddlers to improve.

In the summer months, the team participates in five or six events and competitions, mostly on Vancouver Island. Dragonboat festivals are lots of fun with races, onsite activities, booths and live entertainment often with a beer garden.

Local paddlers participated in the B.C. Senior Games last September. In August, the Dragonflies won the Comox Nautical Days races.

The team meets at the Comox Marina parking lot (west side) at 9:15 before heading to the dock to load the boat. The practice lasts an hour and has a variety of technique and endurance drills.  Paddles and PFDs can be provided.

For details, visit www.cvdragonflies.ca.

If interested in participating March 26, April 2 and April 9, contact Christine at info@cvdragonflies.ca or 250-338-7149.
