Alinda Ware will be walking 10km to fundraise for secondary students in Kenya at the end of April.

Courtenay’s Alinda Ware is one of two B.C. seniors and a “junior” in Ontario who will each walk or run 10km in their home community, the last weekend in April, to raise funds for a multi-day Leadership & Life Skills Workshop for students in Kenya, East Africa.

This annual workshop is provided for over 100 bright, but financially very poor, secondary students whose education is paid by Canadian donors to KEEF – Kenya Education Endowment Fund. (High school is not free in Kenya.)

The workshop offers sessions such as financial literacy, study skills, healthy living, first aid and developing leadership qualities. A highlight of the multi-day workshop is writing a business plan to raise some funds during school vacation.

Currently, the 12 best business plan writers are lent a small sum to be used to start the plan - with this and a low interest to be returned at next year’s workshop - allowing another student to be added to the loan recipients.

Visit for ways to donate and more information about KEEF’s work or contact shelaghag@shaw.ca.
