Courtenay resident asks mayor for a kiss on her hundredth birthday

It's not every day that a person gets a signed letter from the Mayor, Premier, Prime Minister, Governor General and King all in one go. It's a day that Exilda (Della) Allen has been waiting for for exactly 100 years.

It's not every day that a person gets a signed letter from the Mayor, Premier, Prime Minister, Governor General and King all in one go.

It's a day that Exilda (Della) Allen has been waiting for for exactly 100 years. The Casa Loma Seniors Home resident turned 100 on Aug. 23, and was feted with a visit from the mayor, a great turn out from all of her friends and family, some drinks and even a live band.

Allen was born in Dundee, Nova Scotia on Aug. 23, 1924, and she and her family moved to the Comox Valley in the 1970s.

Allen was celebrated by her family, friends and even the Mayor of Courtenay, Bob Wells. Allen, while posing for a photo with the mayor, showed her cheeky side asking Wells for a kiss, sending him into a fit of laughter.

The rest of the celebration was spent listening to the band Country Gold, eating cake and enjoying everyone's company.
