No licence is required! On the third weekend in June, from Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18, anyone who has lived in Canada for the past 12 months can fish in fresh water for free, without buying a licence.

The Courtenay & District Fish & Game Protective Association is hosting a local Family Fishing Day on Saturday, June 17, (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Sunday, June 18 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), at 3780 Colake Rd.

On Saturday, Thrifty Foods will be on hand, supplying a hot dog lunch, beverages and snacks.

Courtenay & District Fish & Game will supply rods and bait for those that do not bring any. Volunteers from the club will also clean, bag and keep fish on ice till the participant leaves. BC Freshwater Fishing Society has provided rods and reels and some tackle for prizes. Local sports store Gone Fishin also provided some tackle for prizes.
