Attendees can try electric vehicles from a number of different manufacturers.

National Drive Electric week is coming up, and the Comox Valley Electric Vehicle Association is charging up for their signature "Move2Electric" show 'n shine on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The event, put on by Emotive BC and the local EV association, will be at Comox Marina from 10 until 4 p.m., and will feature dozens of new models of electric cars and e-bikes to test drive.

People can sign up to try all-electric SUVs, cross-overs, pickup trucks, and cars from Ford, GM, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, VW and more. Peopl can also access any of a dozen electric bicycles and see how easy it is to ride up the steep hill toward Comox Avenue.

"Listen in to speakers explaining how reliable and low maintenance EVs are, how to charge, how EV batteries are made and recycled, how much it costs to “fill up” an EV ($7-$10!), how solar energy can reduce this cost closer to zero, how easy and comfortable both long-distance rides and transcontinental road trips are, and how electric transportation can help save our planet," a release from the group says.

The group has assembled around 30 EV owners and their vehicles, including Audis, Jaguars, Rivians, Teslas and even a Harley Davidson, to talk about their experience and answer questions.

”I love not having to pay for all those oil changes, or fix those oil leaks that seem invariably to happen,” says local GM Bolt driver Megan Ardyche. “But I most especially love driving past all those gas stations and knowing I will never have to worry about the price of gas again.”

Food trucks will also be on site for the event.

"The Comox Valley Electric Vehicle Association and Emotive are hosting this event, which has in past years attracted as many as 1,400 people," the release says. "Across North America, a half million people will attend 300-350 similar car shows to promote a greener future."
