The Comox Valley Photographic Society (CVPS) is set to celebrate 60 years of creativity and community service. The group started as a small collection of photography enthusiasts and has grown to be a pillar of the Comox Valley community. Members showcase their artistic talents while making contributions to local causes.

Founded in 1964, CVPS began as a way to share knowledge, explore creativity and capture the beauty of the Comox Valley. The meetings originally took place in the back to Studio One, a camera store on 5th Street in Courtenay near where Hot Chocolates is now.

The society currently boasts over 100 members, ranging from hobbyists to professionals all coming together for their love of photography. Not only has the society helped members hone their craft but it has also grown to become active in supporting the community through various charitable initiatives.

Among its many contributions, the society has supported high-profile community events such as the Shoreline Orthodontics Tri-K Triathlon, Royal LePage Snow to Surf, the Comox Valley Child Development Telethon, and 19 Wing’s RCAF 100th Anniversary Gala celebration. Whether capturing action shots at sporting events or documenting important milestones, CVPS’s photographers have played a critical role in preserving the legacy of these activities through their lenses.

CVPS has also offered a bursary to North Island College students enrolled in the Photographic Arts program since 2010. The bursary shows CVPS’s commitment to encouraging the next generation of photographers in the Comox Valley, ensuring that young artists have the resources and encouragement to explore their passion.

For the past twelve years, CVPS has presented ImageFest at the Sid Williams Theatre. This event showcases members’ image making skills for residents of the Comox Valley and beyond. Mark Friday, April 25 on your calendar for ImageFest 2025!

The club meets twice a month, providing members with workshops, guest speakers, and open discussions focused on photography. In addition, it features various "Special Interest Groups" where members can gather independently to refine their skills in diverse genres, including drone, macro, and nature photography, among others.
