The results of Comox Valley Land Trust photo contest are in.

In an unexpected twist, Michael Buerge tied with himself for first place! Both winning photos feature birds: a juvenile bald eagle and an Anna’s hummingbird. The judges appreciated Buerge's masterful technique and colours.

The second-place image was taken by Hadrien Jouet. The judges decided that his black-and-white photo of a group of cormorants was a good representation of the Comox Valley.

Shannon Kay won third prize for her stunning portrayal of an ordinary dandelion seed head.

For this year only, there was a special prize for the best photo taken in the Puntledge Forest, to publicize the CVLT’s upcoming campaign to protect the forest from logging. David Schostek won this prize with his aerial image of the river that included a patch of scenic fog.

The judging panel comprised three talented local photographers, and prizes were provided by London Drugs, Mount Washington Alpine Resort and Comox Valley Kayaks and Canoes.

This contest is about celebrating nature as a defining feature of the Comox Valley – something worth preserving. As a charity that works to conserve and restore nature, the Comox Valley Land Trust has played a significant role in protecting more than 600 hectares of ecologically significant land since 1999.

CV Land Trust staff and volunteers are already looking forward to next year’s contest.
