Comox Valley dog walkers have their hands full

The staff at Pawsitive Dog Walking and Daycare love what they do, and it shows.

The Courtenay company offers on and off-leash dog-walking services, and staff can often be spotted along the city streets with their ‘clients.’

On Monday (Oct. 23), Sheri, Roslyn and Wendy led 20 dogs along Willemar Avenue, smiling all the way. The dogs all looked happy as well.

While the dogs look to be in sync with each other and their walkers, Sheri said it does not happen without training.

“It takes a lot of practice, and they all kind of know where they are supposed to be,” she said. We have ‘front’ and we have ‘back.’ Our back dogs stay behind, and our front dogs are dogs that need work, like our puppies.

“We teach them to heel, we teach them to leave things, leave people (alone) and other dogs, that kind of stuff.”

Sheri said the dogs are shuffled around every day, and the morning and afternoon walks are always different.

Monday’s walk featured 20 dogs, which is nowhere near the maximum.

“Some days we have 36,” said Sheri. “We would have four walkers for that many dogs.”
