LYNN WEAVER can teach you about bhangra

An opportunity to learn some bhangra, the folk dance of the Punjab region of India, and India's Ashram Prayer Dance, is happening in Courtenay this Saturday.

Lynn Weaver, artistic director of Shawnigan Lake's MoonDance Dynamic Arts School, is offering a two-hour workshop from 10 a.m. till noon at Island Pilates and Fitness Studio.

Weaver has travelled to many areas of the world to study dance and feels passionate about sharing those experiences through teaching and performance once back home.

"Every instance of learning dance from another culture involves an inherent respect for the people of that culture," Weaver says. "Each person who participates contributes to the preservation of multicultural life on this planet."

Sharing the wisdom she's gained from a life-long yoga practice, and combining that with the movement and music of dance, Weaver will also move students through a flow yoga sequence and then take time to deepen into a single Hatha posture to ground the experience and offer time and space for students to access their own inner wisdom.

This workshop is open to everyone, whether you've ever danced or not. The cost is $25 and registration is through Ann Marie Lisch at annienia@yahoo.ca, or call 250-336-0238.
