BC Housing has responded to some of the questions put forth by the Record in light of the purchase of the Super 8 motel in Courtenay.
On Friday, May 26, Super 8 management informed the Record the property had been sold to BC Houisng.
A statement confirming the purchase process was released by the provincial government on Monday, May 29.
According to the BC Housing, there are currently 67 residents at the Travelodge, all of whom have been made aware of the changes.
“BC Housing reached out to all 67 Travelodge guests on May 23rd to inform them of the potential purchase and relocation plans,” reads the statement received by the Record on May 30.
The agency has confirmed that it will be assisting Travelodge owners with renovations and repairs at the conclusion of its lease (June 30).
“BC Housing works with hotel owners to complete repairs once guests have moved out,” reads the statement. “Repairs are done to return the hotel to the condition similar to when BC Housing originally took possession. The same will be done for the Travelodge. The cost of these renovations is based on a number of factors including the level of repairs required, as well as supply chain considerations.”
Details as to the time frame for the renovations were not available.
As for the cost of the Super 8 purchase, the BC Housing spokesperson said exact amounts have yet to be determined.
“I’m not able to share this at the moment as the exact amounts will be finalized in the coming weeks.”
