Mayor Brown and Council welcomed K鈥櫭砿oks First Nation Hegus Nicole Rempel at the March 10 Council meeting to present a cedar panel art piece created by K鈥櫭砿oks artist Sean Frank to the community.
The artwork acknowledges the K鈥櫭砿oks First Nation and is intended to demonstrate the Village鈥檚 commitment to reconciliation and respect for the land and the K鈥櫭砿oks people.
The panel theme is the legend of Queneesh and features the Comox glacier and the great whale on the mountain. Mist from the whale鈥檚 blowhole represents the spirits of K鈥櫭砿oks ancestors. Light and healing energy can be seen radiating from the sun and a red cedar rope encircling the panel represents the tree of life that has supplied K鈥櫭砿oks with essentials for existence for centuries. Below the cedar panel are eagle feathers that represent the strength of the community to work and live together in harmony.
