On March 20, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) held a small acknowledgement and plaque reveal event to recognize the donation of 4.5 acres to be added to Maris Nature Park in Electoral Area C.

“Thursday’s event marks another important addition to the parks system in the Comox Valley,” explains Electoral Area C Director Edwin Grieve. “We would like to thank Resolute North Holdings Ltd for their generous donation and look forward to preserving the land for generations to come.”

The donation was made by Resolute North Holdings Ltd (in memory of Arthur Francis Coady) and was made possible through the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Ecological Gifts Program, which provides a way for owners of ecologically sensitive land to protect nature and leave a legacy for future generations. As per donation guidelines, development options for land donated through the program require ECCC review and approval.

As CVRD staff continue to work through the management planning process, we ask that the public not access the land and respect the ecological values of the site. Updates will be provided on the Maris Nature Park project page, including community engagement and a public survey launching in late April 2025.

The Comox Valley Regional District is a partnership of three electoral areas and three municipalities operating on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of the land. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on providing sustainable services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
