Local independent investment firm Odlum Brown Limited is celebrating its latest achievement with the presentation of a Business in Vancouver 2016 BC CEO Award to president and chief executive officer Debra Hewson.

Hewson joined Odlum Brown 25 years ago as the manager, fixed income and trading, and excelled in several roles within the firm before taking the helm in 2007. Since her appointment to president and CEO, her client-focused strategic direction of Odlum Brown has led to impressive results, enhancing the firm’s value to clients. In March 2016, Odlum Brown was named one of Canada’s best managed companies for the 17th consecutive year, retaining platinum club status.

“So many of the threads that form the fabric of Odlum Brown are truly spun from the top,” says long-time Valley resident and Courtenay branch manager Janine Martin. “Debi instills this into the culture of Odlum Brown, often stating her belief that if we do what is right for our clients, we will do what is right for the firm and our employees.”

Now comprising five locations across B.C., Odlum Brown established its presence in Courtenay in 1998 and continues to provide disciplined investment advice and objective, value-based research to happy clients in the Comox Valley.

“As a firm, we are truly committed to the well-being of our clients,” said Martin. “Our ongoing education and obligation to professionalism is paramount. Without question, we come to work each day to provide a high level of service to our clients, along with a sincere commitment to get to know and enjoy daily interactions with them.”

Martin began her career 18 years ago as an investment assistant, and is now a vice-president and director of Odlum Brown, along with providing portfolio management services to a large number of investors in the Valley and running the Courtenay office. She endeavours not only to provide high-quality service to local clients, but to enrich the Comox Valley community as a whole through the firm’s sponsorships and charitable initiatives.

Martin hopes recognition like Hewson’s recent award will continue to introduce more Valley residents to what Odlum Brown has to offer.

“There is a lot going on behind the scenes of Odlum Brown,” said Martin. “Debi’s well-deserved recognition is just the latest.”
