The Comox Valley Home Based Business Association (CVHBBA) is welcoming spring with a look at technology.
At the association's next meeting scheduled for April 7, the meeting will change format to feature a panel discussion on technology.
The program is designed especially to answer the questions about maximizing the effectiveness of technology for business owners of small businesses, said Sue Troughton, present of the CVHBBA.
Panelists include Dian Smit, from Nerds on Site and Pieter Vorster of Contingual Palingenesis – Social Media Solutions.
“As part of the HBBA’s commitment to providing valuable information to owners of small businesses in the Valley, each month’s meeting includes an educational component," noted HBBA programming director Russ McKinnon.
While most meetings include a keynote speaker to provide information on a relevant topic, such as marketing or bookkeeping, McKinnon says the association modified the format of the meeting to include two specialists, since the topic area is so broad and the word ‘technology’ evokes diverse questions — from social media to how to export an email address book.
“Our panelists are as diverse as is the topic, since we hope to address as many questions as possible in one evening,” he added.
The meeting, which starts with networking at 6 p.m., will be held at the Best Western on Cliffe Avenue.
The CVHBBA, which started in 1998, provides networking opportunities for association members, encourages and assists members in their personal and professional growth, acts as an advocate to promote the growth and acceptance of home-based business in the Comox Valley, and participates in decision-making about economic development that affects the Valley.
There are more than 75 association members representing a wide variety of businesses — from home improvement and massage therapy to accommodations and travel services.
Guests are welcome to attend two meetings to decide if they wish to join the group; there is no charge to attend. Current dues are $50 per year, with no fees for meetings for members.
