tal Foundation unveiled its new name, Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation, to the community on Thursday, June 16 to kick off the 26th Annual St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Golf Classic at Crown Isle.
Because the Foundation will now be supporting St. Joseph’s and the new Comox Valley Hospital, it was agreed on in March by the Foundation’s board of directors that a new name was needed.
“Changing our name was not an easy decision, especially since St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation has been providing funding to our community hospital since 1993,” said Lynn Dashkewytch, executive director of Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation. “With the opening of the new Comox Valley Hospital in fall of 2017 and St. Joseph’s future role in residential and hospice care, our Foundation wanted to change its name to something that represents the diversity of health-care facilities it will be supporting in the community.”
“We may have a new name, but the heart of our Foundation remains the same – to help improve healthcare for all of us in our community, and for that we thank our many wonderful donors.”
Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation’s (CVHF) heart and leaf logo was chosen in order to represent two areas that are close to the Foundation – the heart represents love, care and compassion, while the leaf symbolizes growth, rebirth and the historical importance of forests to the Comox Valley. Forests are also the theme of the new Island Health Comox Valley Hospital, where CVHF’s main office will open in late 2017. CVHF will also continue to have a presence on St. Joseph’s site after acute care moves to the new hospital next year.
“St. Joseph’s General Hospital is so very thankful for the significant funding support provided over the many years by our community through generous donations to the Foundation,” said Jane Murphy, president and CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital. “This support will play a vital role as St. Joseph’s continues to provide acute care services through the opening of the new hospital in the fall of 2017 and in supporting St. Joseph’s as it transitions to its future role.
“It has been inspiring to see the Foundation grow with the help of so many generous donors in our community, and for this we thank you.”
CVHF can still accept donations and planned giving bequests for both St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation and Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation over the next few months to support the transition.
