The Blooming Barn on Dove Creek Road is hosting a few family event called “I Spy…Blooms in July!,” featuring outdoor games for all ages, a photo booth, a raffle, non-stop musical entertainment, and a book launch on Saturday, July 8.

The mother and daughter team of Mary Murphy and Fiona Van Housen have just published Sweet Peas And Bees, and Murphy will be reading excerpts from the book.

Murphy wrote the book, while Van Housen supplied the artwork.

“So in short, this is a free event to celebrate the release of our new illustrated book that my mom and I collaborated on,” said Van Housen. “I did the illustrations and she did the writing.”

Van Housen and Murphy have collaborated in such a fashion before, with a few of Murphy’s fairy books, “but this is the first fully painted illustrated book I have done.

“This book follows the adventures of a little kid picking flowers at a flower farm to give away as gifts, and she meets a bee along the way. So there’s a little bit about different flowers in the book. I’d say it is educational and also teaches about (philanthropy).”

Games include a bean bag toss and there will be a colouring station.

The book will be for sale at the event and the first 20 purchases will also receive a goodie bag.

The u-pick flower farm will also be open, and the booth will have pre-picked bouquets as well.

The entertainment schedule is as follows:
