The Comox Valley Association of Bed & Breakfasts and Vacation Rentals (CVABBVR) is hosting a roundtable-panel discussion at its spring social on Thursday, May 9, 6-8 p.m. at the Comox Valley Visitors Centre.

The topic of the evening’s discussion is “Challenges and opportunities facing home accommodation hosts.”

Although the association meetings are usually just for members, the organization’s directors invite all current and prospective B&B and vacation rental owners to attend.

Understanding the importance of networking and collaboration among like-minded business owners, the evening agenda includes networking among accommodation hosts, which is the perfect time for non-members to “pick the brains” of other home accommodation owners; a roundtable discussion; and a brief business meeting of current CVABBVR members.

There will be four seasoned accommodation owners on the panel to field questions about various issues and opportunities facing home accommodation owners. Topics will likely range from the pros and cons of serving breakfast and insurance to credit card processing, third-party booking sites (including channel managers, such as FreeToBook), and an update on proposed bylaw changes that made news in the Comox Valley in 2018.

Panelists for the discussion include association members Andy Whyte (The Beach House B&B), Jenny Steel (Curtis Corner, association treasurer), Ross Monroe (Eaglesview Escape), and Rebecca Kayfetz (Ellerslie B&B, association secretary). Carolyn Touhey (Two Eagles Lodge B&B, association president) will moderate the evening’s agenda.

During the five-minute business portion of the meeting, the association will distribute its 2019 Dining Discount Guide, Guest Attractions Discount Guide and an updated member roster so that accommodation referrals can be made when a host gets an inquiry but is full.

These brochures, intended to enhance each host’s guest experience, are just some of the perks of membership in the growing Association of bed and breakfasts and vacation rental owners. In addition, the Association’s website features members’ properties; members get exclusive member discounts at area businesses, as well as the benefit of shared advertising/marketing.

Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be served.

Non-members are asked to pay a $15 fee to attend the event. Please RSVP. The fee will be applied to membership dues if an attendee joins the association by June 30. If not, then the fee will be donated to the Comox Valley Habitat for Humanity.

RSVP to Rebecca at ellerslie@telus.net by May 3 or phone her at 250-900-9963.
