Looking for work? Wanting to meet local employers? Wondering about employment opportunities in the Comox Valley? Set a reminder in your calendar to attend the Employment Expo Job Fair 2017 on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Florence Filberg Centre, Courtenay, upstairs hall, 12:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m.
Come prepared to connect with employers from the health, hospitality, human services, construction, finance, seafood and many other industries. This annual event is hosted by The Job Shop, Work BC Employment Services Centre.
Planning to attend the Expo but not sure how to prepare? Here are a few tips:
• Research the employers you would like to speak to.
• Tailor your resume.
• Plan your introduction and questions.
• Better yet, stop into The Job Shop/Work BC to use the resources in our self-serve centre or speak to a Career Advisor to explore personalized job search assistance.
On the day of the job fair, dress as though you already work there! Approach each employer with a smile, a handshake, patience, and enthusiasm. Circulate and visit multiple employers — you may be surprised at the variety of positions at an organization. After a chat, ask for a business card, so that you can follow up with a letter or email.
The Job Shop/Work BC centre can help with all of your job search needs. Call 250-334-3119 for information or visit the website www.thejobshop.ca .
