A local real estate appraiser has been elected president of the Appraisal Institute of Canada, the nation’s premiere appraisal industry association.
Dan Wilson of Jackson & Associates Real Estate Appraisers and Consultants was named president of the nearly 5,000-member organization at its annual general meeting in Calgary last month. He says being part of the national executive is not only personally rewarding but professionally rewarding as well.
“The AIC is full of highly qualified and respected professionals who are committed to the highest level of competency,” he says. “Being on the board has expanded the circle of peers I can bounce ideas off of. From exchanging information, ideas and methods of valuation to just talking through common problems, I’ve become a better appraiser because of it.”
An AIC member since 1994, Wilson first joined the board of his local chapter in 2000. Four years later he was elected to the provincial board and served two terms as B.C. president from 2007 to 2009. He joined the national board in 2010 and the executive, as vice-president, in 2011. He’s since held several leadership positions on various national committees.
“The Appraisal Institute of Canada welcomes Dan into the role of national president,” said AIC chief executive officer Keith Lancastle. “His vast experience on day-to-day issues related to real property appraisals and keen sense of the needs of the membership will continue to advance the profession.”
